Crystals have long been used for healing purposes, and there is growing interest in their ability to alleviate migraines. A migraine is not just a bad headache, it is a neurological condition that can cause a range of symptoms, including sensitivity to light, sound and smell, nausea, vomiting and dizziness. In this blog post, we will discuss the most commonly used crystals for migraine and how they work.
It is important to note that while crystals can be effective at alleviating migraine symptoms, they should not be used as a replacement for medical treatment.
Migraine Symptoms
It's helpful to consider the symptoms of your migraines and when they occur to identify their underlying cause. Symptoms may include:
- aura - like looking through cracked glass, shimmering lights
- sensitivity to light or sound,
- nausea, and
- a feeling of being hungover
- drooling and feeling like the side of your face has dropped.
These may all provide clues to your triggers and which crystals will work best to help manage your symptoms. I personally get aura, often when I’m stressed or in response to eating certain foods.

Crystals to help manage migraines
Rose Quartz
This crystal is all about balance and self-nurturing, and it is particularly effective at reducing stress and anxiety. When you're feeling overwhelmed, Rose Quartz can help you find a sense of calm and peace, which can help to alleviate migraine symptoms.
Lapis Lazuli
Lapis is another crystal that is commonly used for migraines. It is particularly effective at working on the third eye and the crown chakra, which are both located in the head. Lapis can help to alleviate headaches, and it is also believed to enhance mental clarity and intuition.
Green Aventurine
This is often recommended for migraines because it works on the heart chakra. It is a calming and soothing crystal, and it can help to ease tension and promote relaxation. Green stones are particularly effective at cooling and soothing the body, which can help to alleviate migraine symptoms.
Clear Quartz
Quartz is the master crystal that is particularly effective at amplifying the effects of other crystals. It is often recommended to be used in conjunction with other crystals for maximum effectiveness. When used with other crystals, Quartz can help to enhance their healing properties and improve their overall effectiveness.
Rhodochrosite
In addition to these commonly used crystals, there is also rhodochrosite that can be particularly effective at alleviating migraines. It's a beautiful pink stone with gentle white waves through it. It is particularly effective at reducing pain and inflammation, and it can also help to improve circulation and reduce stress.
Other suggestions for crystals to manage migraines
As mentioned earlier crystals are best tailored to your triggers and symptoms. I’ve covered the main suggestions above but others to consider are:
- Moonstone for migraines related to monthly cycle
- Carnelian and citrine if they occur when you are overly tired
- Yellow and green crystals, such as citrine, emerald and yellow jasper, can help with reducing nausea.
How to use crystals for migraines
To use crystals for migraines, you can simply hold the crystal in your hand, place it on the affected area or wear it as jewellery.
I find lying quietly with my rhodochrosite tucked into the notch at the base of my skull works best for me but I recommend trying a variety of the crystals mentioned to find which works best for you.
Many people find it helpful to meditate with their crystals, as this can help to enhance their healing properties. It is important to note that while crystals can be effective at alleviating migraine symptoms, they should not be used as a replacement for medical treatment.
Crystals can be a powerful tool in the fight against migraines. By using crystals that work on specific chakras and promote relaxation and balance, you can help to alleviate migraine symptoms and improve your overall sense of well-being. If you suffer from migraines, it is worth considering incorporating crystals into your treatment plan to see if they can help to reduce your symptoms.
